Census Records
In Scotland, England and Wales, since 1841 census records have consistently recorded the names and ages of everyone living in the country, along with other helpful information, such as occupations and birthplaces. These records are invaluable in building up a better picture of how your ancestors once lived.
We have transcribed many census records in the south Scotland, in fact now close to half a million entries. See our Census Publications page to obtain these transcriptions.
We can search and provide details from the census for other areas of Scotland (and also England and Wales) than those we have published ourselves. The years that we cover range from 1841 to 1901. Photocopies of census entries can be provided for £4 per copy, and transciptions for £4 per entry. Special services and rates are available in southern Scotland where we have been transcribing and publishing the 1841-1861 censuses - please see our Census Search page for details.
