We now have a large database of census material for the Scottish Borders and Dumfriesshire and can provide a variety of research services based on the database we have. We can perform powerful searches to locate elusive individuals known to have lived in the area but hard to find. Household Search Service

If you are only seeking one family, or a limited number of families, our household search service may be of assistance to you. For only £5.00 per census year we will search our database for any specific family or household, as long as you can provide enough information to reasonably identify the individuals involved. Our database covers the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census. If we locate the household you are looking for this service includes copies of the original census pages involved.

Surname Search Service

If your interest is on one particular surname spread over many parishes or counties, our surname search report service may be of interest to you. We can very much tailor this service to your individual needs, as we either search our entire area looking for your chosen surname for all the census years we have, or you can limit the search by county, census year, age, birthplace (country, county, or parish), or indeed almost any criteria you like. The reports are charged at 50p per family located in the census, with a minimum search fee of 5 pounds.

Microfilm Copies Service

We have microfilm rolls of the original handwritten census pages for the Scottish Borders area for 1841, 1851, and 1861, and Dumfriesshire for 1851, and are happy to supply photocopies of any page from the census from the microfilm at £2.00 per page (free UK postage). The copies are Crown Copyright and are supplied under the condition that they are not reproduced or published without the permission of the General Register Office (Scotland).
